Curriculum

Our curriculum is broad and balanced across all key areas of the National Curriculum and effective planning and delivery ensure all students have the support needed to achieve as highly as possible.

We pay particular attention to developing the essential skills in English and mathematics. A bespoke catch-up programme for students in KS3 and differentiated lessons ensure an appropriate level of challenge is provided to enable all to progress. Specialist teaching across KS4 and 1:1 tutoring in Y11, ensures that all students in KS3 and differentiated lessons ensure an appropriate level of challenge is provided to enable all to progress.

The Timetable

At North Shore Academy we follow a one week timetable, each day has 5 periods of 60 minutes making 25 periods per week.

The School Day

The school day begins at 8.20am and is made up of five one hour length lessons and a twenty minute VMG (vertical mentoring group), every day.

Break (15 minutes) is between VMG and period 3.

Lunch (30 mins) is staggered over period 4.

The academy day formally finishes at 2.30pm for most students although we have an extensive extra-curricular programme which runs every night from 2.30pm onwards. Students in Y11 have additional intervention and revision every night between 2.30 and 3.30.

Students in Y7 and Y8 will study:

Maths

Science

History

Geography

MFL (French)

IT

Technology (Design Technology, Food, Art)

P.E.

During Y8, students will start their first ‘Pathways’ process, where they will be awarded subjects they are successful in key stage 4.It should be noted, in our curriculum model students will undertake additional ‘pathways’ processes in Year 9, 10 and 11 where necessary to ensure every student in the academy is on the correct path to achieve as highly as possible.

KS4

In Year 9, 10 and 11 students must study:

  • GCSE English Language
  • Life

GCSE English Literature

Mathematics

Combined Science (Trilogy)

Students may also have the opportunity to study a selection of subjects from the following list. A student’s selection will be determined by their individual pathway.
