North Shore Academy

Inspiring Healthy Minds

History

The Academy was formed in September 2010 as North Shore Health Academy under the sponsorship of NHS Stockton. Science and Sports were chosen as the Specialisms for the Academy because of the association with the NHS.

The Academy's main campus was on Junction Road, Stockton. In 2012 the closure of NHS Stockton resulted in new sponsors for the Academy. The Northern Education Trust were chosen as the new sponsors.

North Shore's New Building on Talbot Street, Stockton began construction in March 2012 by Carillion.

Inside the building a M'Gonigle Suite was created in agreement with NHS Stockton and Northern Education Trust to celebrate Dr George C. M M'Gonigle who was appointed Officer for Health and School Medical Officer for Stockton-on-Tees in 1924.
Dr. M'Gonigle became internationally famous when he proved that there was a link between poverty and ill health using information from the local area. There is more information about Dr M'Gonigle on the Stockton on Tees Council website here or on Wikipedia here.

The M'Gonigle Suite is used for science lessons and our Primary School activities and events. Visit out Primary Zone to find out what activities and events are on.

In September 2012, the name of the Academy was changed to North Shore Academy to represent the change in sponsor.

North Shore Academy's New Build on Talbot Street was officially opened by HRH Duke of Gloucester on Wednesday 2nd October 2013.
