North Shore Academy

Outcomes Focused, Child Centred

Our specialism is sports

The North Shore Physical Education department provides a physically rich curriculum that embraces diversity in teaching and learning styles. It is designed to engage, inspire and maximise students potential. We encourage our students through the catalyst of PE to become independent learners, to develop lifelong healthy lifestyles and become participants in sport and physical activity beyond their academy years and into their adult lives.

In years 7, 8 and 9 we offer a broad and balanced curriculum to all of our students, who have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of sports and roles under the following titles: Outwitting Opponents, Leadership, Accurate replication of actions phrases and sequences, Exercising safely and effectively, Performing at maximum levels and Exploring and communicating ideas concepts and emotions. Students also have numerous leadership opportunities through our outstanding links with all of the feeder primary schools.

In years 10 and 11 the curriculum follows on from the Key Stage 3 Physical Education programme of study by providing students with exciting opportunities to lead a healthy and active lifestyle by choosing from a variety of roles and activities in which to participate in physical activity. All students will complete the AQA GCSE qualification or Edexcel BTEC First Diploma in Sport.

The content of these two courses is designed to enable students to enjoy and understand the benefits of living a healthy and active lifestyle; to provide a route to further study in Further Education awards, such as A levels and/or the new Diplomas, and to Higher Education in PE as well as to related career opportunities.

The facilities at North Shore Academy are outstanding. There are extensive playing fields; a floodlit 3G football pitch; three multi use games courts with basketball nets; and three tennis courts. In the Academy building there is a four badminton court sized sports hall; an activity hall; a multi-use hall; a dance studio; a fitness suite with state of the art equipment and free weights; and two specialised PE classrooms.
