North Shore Academy

Outcomes Focused, Child Centred

Severe Weather & School Closure

The academy will stay open if at all possible when there is severe weather, including snow and flooding. Parents have the responsibility for getting students to and from the academy safely and need to decide if the journey is safe when severe weather affects transport and/or walking conditions.

We will always do our best to keep the academy open and if you have not heard anything please assume that it is business as usual. The academy will only close if we have insufficient staff to supervise children or if there are health and safety issues.

Information about school closure will be posted:

  • on our website
  • to our facebook page
  • via our Twitter account
  • or listen to BBC Radio Tees or TFM

We will endeavour to get key messages onto these sites by 7.00 a.m.

Parents should be aware that the radio stations listed offer a service to alert parents about school closures due to bad weather, heating problems, etc. During periods of severe weather, the details are regularly updated on air and on their websites. To ensure the effectiveness of this system, parents are requested to listen to this service and not make individual calls to the radio station or to the academy, as this diverts staff away from providing an efficient service for all.
