Inspiring Healthy Minds

Does my child have SEND?

Children and young people make progress at different rates and have different ways in which they learn best. Teachers at the Academy take account of this in the way they organise their lessons and teach. Students making slower progress or having particular difficulties in one area may be given extra support to enable them to succeed.

Special educational needs that affect a child's ability to learn can include their:

  • Behaviour or ability to socialise, e.g. not being able to make friends
  • Reading and writing, e.g. they have dyslexia
  • Ability to understand things: speech and language, communication difficulties
  • Concentration levels, e.g. they have ADHD (Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder)
  • Physical needs or impairments

The Equality Act 2010 states that a person has a disability if they have a physical or mental impairment and the impairment has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on their ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities .
